The Engineer

My name is Colin Davis.  I have been involved in audio engineering for most of my adult life, but I started working in a recording studio in 1996.  That studio was built by myself and band mate Juan Urteaga which operated under the name Trident Studios in Pacheco California.  Since then, I branched out into mastering and started Imperial Mastering in 2000.

Many folks know me because I am the songwriter and producer for the extreme metal band Vile and I take that experience with me into the audio engineering field.

I learned very quickly that mastering in a specialized room was a totally different dimension from the mixing environment.  Some mastering engineers start from scratch and intern at large mastering houses where they gain their initial experience.  For many others, we start in the recording and mixing fields and then dive into mastering  later and  learn through direct experience and  trial and error – years later, the final destination is the same place.  At this stage, I feel that I am one of the most proficient mastering engineers out there who works at a price an average band can actually afford – in my case, 400 dollars.

I am driven by my value system – basically the golden rule.   I put myself in the shoes of the band and always deliver them a product that is highly competitive with the pro mastering houses, is affordable for them, and is delivered in a timely manner where communication is open and easy.
