Home recording studio build consultations (all musical styles)
Maybe you are a musician who wants to become a session player and needs to be able to record pro tracks at home for other people’s albums. Or maybe you are already doing this but want to step up the quality of your results. Maybe you only need to record for your own band, or maybe you are building a commercial studio from the ground up in your home or other location.
Whatever the situation, I offer guidance that can save you thousands of dollars in unnecessary spending and countless hours of frustrating trial and error. We can discuss all areas of studio design including recording gear, signal chain, monitoring, room acoustics and treatment, construction techniques, wiring, power and studio design in every area. For a simple set-up, a single consultation may be all you need!
Room build and acoustics
A large bedroom can give great results as a mixing studio if treated and set up properly. A living room can become a very good drum room and this can be done on a modest budget if set up right. Alternatively, a room built from scratch can yield even better results “if” the builder takes into consideration room dimension ratios, wall and floor construction, electrical power and acoustic treatments. I can assist you in this area and point you to professional reference material that you can rely on to achieve very good results, regardless of your situation.
Recording and mixing consulting and instruction (all styles)
If you would like to improve the sound of your recordings, I can listen to your mixes and analyze your recording and mixing workflow, then give you suggestions across the board to immediately improve your results and give you greater confidence in your work.
Metal music production consultations
To get professional and high fidelity results, an album, EP or single should be planned from the beginning. Most artists who record without a producer create albums that do not sound the way they wished they would. Some of this is due to lack of experience but an even bigger reason is that they never had a plan to start with. I can help you create your plan.
Often we start with the sound of a reference album (or two) that the artist is influenced by and wants to get close to in some way. Then, together, we can create a basic plan for recording and mixing that will end with a result that is at least close to what the artist was aiming for. You can bring me on for a consultation before you start and call me back if you need to. You can send me tracks to listen to as you progress. If you are not the engineer, I can speak with your recording or mixing engineer if you need me to. Then at the end I can master your album!
